A Dose of Buckley 18 – BBM

Posted in A Dose of Buckley with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 26, 2010 by adoseofbuckley

If you live in Canada, you may or may not at one point in your life received a phone call from BBM, The Bureau of Measurement. They conduct surveys 4 times a year to figure out the ratings. It’s a little skewed because they just send you a book and hope you’ll fill it out right, and though I’m sure 90% of people do, there’s the other 10% that probably mess it up.

Anyway, I received one of these surveys, as did my girlfriend. Next thing I know, we get a call from a telemarketer who’s only possible source for our name and number could have been BBM… How do I know this for sure? Well, listen to the audio!

I also put together a snazzy little video version and posted it on YouTube:

I’m not saying for sure that BBM sold our information, maybe it was a leak from someone in their organization. But to say it was a coincidence… well it’s next to impossible.

A Dose of Buckley 17 – Paying for Facebook

Posted in A Dose of Buckley with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on March 19, 2010 by adoseofbuckley

NOTE: As there’s been quite a few more visitors to my WordPress “blog”(ugh) recently, I thought I’d point out to newcomers that there’s an audio component to all of my work. Click the link below the next paragraph to listen.

By now, you’ve seen the facebook groups/fan pages: “I’m quitting Facebook once we have to pay $14.99 a month on July 9, 2010”, or some other date (it oddly enough keeps getting pushed back). These groups are FAKE, at least so says Mark Zuckerberg. But incase you’re just someone who is even more cynical than me and doesn’t believe ol’ Marky Z when he says he has no intentions of ever charging for his service… how about trying the lost art of “critical thinking” before you join one of these sham groups and start sounding off like an uninformed idiot on their wall? This week’s Dose of Buckley explains why Facebook won’t become a paysite, especially not for $14.99 a month.

A Dose of Buckley 16 – Chinese Buffet

Posted in A Dose of Buckley with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 13, 2010 by adoseofbuckley

I was a little late with this week’s Dose of Buckley… but what do you want, it’s free entertainment.

Anywho, this week I discuss the sensation of Chinese Buffets, and my theory that they’re the biggest joke perpetrated by the people of China on North Americans. They’re laughing at us every time we walk up to those big metal trays for our second and third helpings. And quite frankly, they should be.

Cougar Life Commercial

Have you seen the website CougarLife.com yet? Or the TV spots? Or the Internet banner ads? Well, I don’t think it’s a very NEW website, but the marketing push is definitely pretty new.

So, I decided to help them out a little with this commercial I created. I don’t know if they’ll be too interested in using it though… it might be a little bit of a turn-off to the young fellas who might want to use the site (if you get the joke).

I love helping people… even if they don’t like to be helped. That’s why I started the “Advice No One Asked For” series. So far, I don’t think I’ve even got a single thank you… not one. Oh well, being an unwelcome advice guru is hard, thankless work.

This week’s Advice No One Asked For, I help out a young man who needs to make a tough decision regarding him and his girlfriend. Or maybe I’m helping out the girlfriend… I don’t know, listen for yourself.

A Dose of Buckley 15 – Ambulances

I really don’t understand people who drive… how difficult is it to just be courteous? I’m a complete asshole, and even I let people in merging lanes, obey traffic laws, and stop when emergency vehicles are trying to come through intersections. But I may be in the minority, because at least in my city, people seem to have absolutely no respect for fire trucks, police, or worst of all, ambulances. What could be so important in people’s lives that they can’t wait 30 seconds while an Ambulance comes through an intersection? I have a few ideas in this edition of A Dose of Buckley.

Dose of Buckley 14 (and 14b) – Olympic Recap and Correction

I’m really late on this one, but anyway… as the Olympics were wrapping up, I talked about the results and my biggest disappointment of the games: that they were ending and we weren’t going to see any of these events again!

THEN on Monday or Tuesday after the Olympics had finished, I felt the need to make a correction, as my math was a little off on the stats… it also gave me an opportunity to comment on Sid Crosby becoming the hero of the games despite the fact that he didn’t do jack shit in the entire tournament.

It would seem the London Middlesex Health Unit (or is it the Middlesex London Health Unit? Does anyone care?) has entered the mid to late 1980’s and realized that kids like playing video games! And so, what better way to teach young adults about safe sex than with a flash-based trivia game featuring high school grade humour and lots of drawings of penises? Well, apparently the right-wing thinks there’s definitely a better way.

Lack of updates…

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on March 6, 2010 by adoseofbuckley

So, I haven’t really been updating the ol’ WordPress lately. I have a good reason though: no one visits it! I get fewer visits to my WordPress (ugh)”blog” in a month than I do in one day to my website. And since I already update my Facebook fanpage, and the actual site itself with content, I tend to forget about WordPress. Now, the only reason I got this thing in the first place was because it’s supposed to generate more traffic to my site. But it doesn’t, because ultimately, people aren’t just surfing WordPress looking for new stuff to look at… I hope. If you’re a loser who just randomly checks out other people’s blogs, well… go listen to some stuff on my god damn website if you have so much time! The WordPress community though seems far more interested in posting their own shit than they do seeing what else is out there.

That all said, I’m going to try and keep up with updating this. Who knows, maybe one of my tags will trigger something and I’ll get a few new visitors. I’m not banking on it though.
